Croatia is as of 1st January 2023 part of the Schengen Area. For the time being 4 member states of the European Union, i.e. Bulgaria, Cyprus, Ireland and Romania do not issue Schengen visas.

A visa is only a preliminary permission for entry and does not automatically entitle its holder to entry. Proof of entry and stay conditions in Hungary may also be requested from the passenger when crossing the border. Failure of being able to provide these requirements may result in refusal of entry.

Hungary has been a full member of the Schengen area since 21 December 2007. From that time visas and residence permits issued by one of the Schengen Member States may be used to enter and stay in Hungary, and visas/residence permits issued by Hungarian authorities are - as a general rule - also valid for the entire Schengen area.
